Arabica and Robusta beans are two major species of coffee grown commercially for consumption of coffee. The general differences are those of taste, growth conditions and economic differences.

Robusta Coffee Price rose 14% to $2,067 a metric ton (94 cents a pound) this year as Arabica declined to $1.6765 a pound ($3,688 a ton) after Brazil’s government forecast a record crop for this year. Even after falling 26% this year, Arabica is still more costly than Robusta.

Though there are many brands of Arabica coffee, there aren’t many Robusta Coffee Brands. Now that futures traded in London are above $2,000 a metric ton, traders and analysts anticipate that the farmers will release their beans into the market soon.

Vietnam is the world’s top Robusta producer and is ranked second in terms of exporting coffee behind Brazil. Vietnam’s harvest for the year ending Sept. 30 was better than the market had expected, prompting oversupply worries that helped send prices to $1,720 a ton, a 13-month low, in January. At those prices, farmers preferred not to sell.

Robusta Coffee Gold is a superior form of Robusta coffee. The Arabica coffee plant is self-pollinating, whereas the Robusta Coffee Plant depends on cross pollination.

Green Robusta Coffee Beans are healthier although they are easily perishable. There are various discussions regarding Arabica vs Robusta Coffee Beans. Arabica beans come from coffee Arabica coffee plants and are grown in high altitudes. They require a lot of attention from farmers as the plants are quite fragile. If an Arabica coffee growing country experiences too much (or too little) rain or an unexpected freeze, all the coffee plants could be destroyed and a season’s worth of crops lost.

Arabica beans are also very prone to insects and diseases, so constant monitoring and care by farmers are required. When it comes to taste, the high altitudes and constant care allows the Arabica plants to produce coffee that has a greater complexity in taste and are far more superior to Robusta beans.

Robusta bean are harder and a lot easier to grow than Arabica, requiring lesser attention by farmers and less affected by climate changes. Robusta does not have to grow in high altitudes and it produces much more coffee cherries than Arabica’s. There is a major shortcoming in Robusta – the coffee produced by the Robusta tastes like burnt rubber (literally). In robusta’s defense, the plant does yield beans having a very high caffeine content (about twice as much as Arabica) and taste very bold, which is desirable by some in espresso.

Robusta Coffee or Coffee Robusta is one of the world famous coffees. Robusta coffee is accounted for the second largest coffee production. Approximately one third of world coffee production is Robusta coffee. We can conclude that even though Robusta coffee has many advantages over Arabica coffee including easy maintenance and lesser price, it still cannot take Arabica’s place because of the many varieties and the exquisite taste Arabica provides.
